Snorkmaiden: Rathdrum

We took Gwion out of school for a day and headed to Ireland for the Snorks first foreign adventure: Rathdrum Hidden Valley caravan and Camping Site

It was great!
We parked right by the river, you could open the back doors and watch the river, a little nerve wracking as it has rained so much this month, but we were parked the right way to drive off quickly if need be.

We had bought a Khyam awning, and were planning to put it up, but after two hours of battling the wind and the fact that the Snork's rain gutters were too shallow, we packed it away and got on with our holiday.
We had forgotten to put the cutlery back in the van after the last trip so we had to go and buy a takeaway from the outside cafe for tea. Rubbery chips and bendable cutlery, but it filled our bellies, breakfast the next morning was fun, have you ever eaten Cheerios with a bendy, small, plastic spoon??

We spent the next day on the fantastic playground, Gwion surprised us by climbing all the way to the top of this frame, and back down again, without the old whining that we had become accustomed to. We were so proud of him.

Here are some more photos of the playground and the most important people in our world.

Gwion didn't enjoy the kayaking, the moans were back...

The squirting donuts was a different matter entirely:

On the friday evening as Andy put the kids to bed, I took a walk up the steep hill into Rathdrum and found another playground, perfect for the next day. It's a wonderful place with lots of painted houses and old fashioned shops and pubs.
There were lots of houses being restored, but being a little over an hour from Dublin the prices of houses weren't cheap either, I did look in the estate agents window, just incase, you never know!!

When we returned back from our very rainy walk the next day, we found this treasure, or particular interest to Auntie Maria we thought
